One user has posted the following question: Anyone still remember what it was like working as a telegraph boy, in the City of London During the mid fifties? I am thinking of making my story known in this web site. This is my start.

I started work in 1942 as a telegram boy at the Central telegraph office St Martins-le- Grande, in August 1942 I stayed there until I joined the army in October 1945. My name is Frank Kennett and then I lived in Walthamstow E17. Names i remember from those days are, Tom Fairs, Ken Humphries, Fred Huckle. I remember billiting at the Office because of the air raids. If anyone remembers my Email address is frankkennett @bigpond.com, I am 81 now and often think of those days with a lot of good feelings. I started work as a Telegram Boy at the Post Office Factory, Bovey Place London N.7 near Holloway Road. There were only two boys working in the office area and our job was to sort all incoming mail and delivering it to the verious offices. We also collected the out going mail from the whole area including the factory area at the rear of the building. I worked here from 1952 until transferring to the Holloway Office where I delivered telegrams in the North Seven District and this was done on push bikes. Our hardest section was climbing up Highgate Hill to the Archway area. I was at the Holloway office only for a few months and I transferred to Finsbury Park Office so that I could get my motor cycle licence and deliver telegrams on a motor cycle. The bike we rode was a BSA 125 cc rigid colloidal silver frame.
I remained at Finsbury Park Post Office until 1955 when I enlisted in the Royal Air Force for three years. In 1958 I returned to the Post Office and after training at Kings Cross I was posted to Stoke Newington Sorting Office and worked on deliveries for N.16 area until getting promotion to Postman Higher Grade and sent to Mount Pleasant Inland Section. I worked at Mount Pleasent on most of the County Section and spent the rest of my service there until at the age of 24 in 1962 I resigned to join the Metropolitan Police and became a Police Officer at City Road.
