Overview
A brand-new set of six postcards featuring original photographs from the GPO Photograph Library of the 1930s and 40s. These black & white images depict Britain at the time of the General Post Office – from remote rural regions where the postman (or postwoman) presented a vital connection to the outside world, to the modern urban centres of innovation and mechanisation. A wonderful nostalgic view of a bygone era.
The postcard images are:
BPMA-PC-19a Man posting a letter holding a cauliflower, 1949
BPMA-PC-19b Main Street in Cley, Norfolk, 1937
BPMA-PC-19c Postman on horseback near Withypool, Somerset, 1938
BPMA-PC-19d Postman with pony and trap in Northern Ireland, 1938
BPMA-PC-19e A female clerk at the Post Office Savings Bank, 1934
BPMA-PC-19f Postman at a level crossing in Norfolk, 1947
