The exhibition details the early flights and the early experiments of delivering UK mail by air, including the innovative but short-lived rocket mail trials. As part of the display, read facsimiles of the newspaper reports from the time detailing the success and failures involved with these early flights and attempted deliveries. The display also looks at the design of the airmail logo, as designed by Theyre Lee-Elliott in 1934.

Also on display for the exhibition run is our blue George V airmail pillar box, introduced to facilitate and promote the country’s new airmail service in 1930.

Children's Activity

A brand new children’s activity sheet has been created to accompany the exhibition and will be available from BPMA Search Room staff when visiting the exhibition.

Commemorative Post & Go stamps

Special commemorative Post & Go stamps marking the Airmail anniversary will be available from 20 August, for the three month exhibition run, from the Post & Go machine in Freeling Foyer.
